@sun Free? I think that computer costs 1.2K USD or something like that, at least it's less than the Raptor Blackbird or most ARM "workstations" (more like mini-servers).

@lanodan but the CPU design is free, this isn't clickbait at all

@sun For me that's entirely clickbait, specially given that LTT audience likely can't really do anything with the ISA+platform being a libre design.

@sun In fact I think a way to showcase libre design powers would be more it being made by several different companies in different countries.
And in more nerd-appropriate channels, how it already seems to have got pretty good OS support.

@lanodan @sun it's not like an average Joe can do anything even with all those free CPU cores.

Though programming for riscv is fun, I guess.

@RedTechEngineer @sun I'd more go for the VisionFive 2 from StarFive given their documented Upstream Plan: https://rvspace.org/en/project/JH7110_Upstream_Plan

The last thing I'd want is being stuck to a vendor tree for u-boot and kernel, and I've yet to see anything similar from any other riscv manufacturer.
(ARM gave me enough pains that I tend to assume it's stuck to vendor trees when not documented)

@lanodan @sun most people would probably be better off with it's $60 cousin from the same company. https://milkv.io/jupiter
Less capable than the one in the LTT video but nowhere close to 42x less capable.

        Milk-V
Milk-V Jupiter, powered by the Spacemit K1/M1 SoC, is the world's first Mini ITX device to support both RVA22 and RVV1.0. This device integrates a standard PCIe connector, supporting common PCIe devices such as graphics cards, PCIe to SATA adapters, and network cards. It features dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, onboard Wi-Fi 6/BT 5.2, and supports NVMe SSDs, making it an ideal choice for an entry-level RISC-V desktop.

@RedTechEngineer @sun In fact finally bought it, upstreaming progressed at least enough for me that even if it stops right now it would still be useful.
