I haven't posted a TED talk in years, but this one is utterly necessary. A dire warning, and a small chance of hope. "The Tipping Points of Climate Change--and Where We Stand" by the incredible Johan Rockström https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl6VhCAeEfQ&ab_channel=TED
@timwaterman@aral Those repeated ”we ” and ” us ” are doing a whole bunch of work in that presentation. And it also smudges the fact that the tipping point may well have been crossed the last two decades. Finally, the solutions mentioned are given in such generous terms that they are essentially meaningless. Nobody with power is taking the ipcc or the science in general seriously. A lot of green wash maybe, but this isn’t useful for the whole, just the ff guys.
@aral@mojala I don't think he glosses over the fact that we have passed tipping points. The important thing is he is getting across the point that we must act quickly and decisively and not give in to doom. It's a message very well pitched to a very general White, Western 'we'.
