   The innovation that those of us who -are- estranged from our families have had to develop is that -no- relationship is mandatory - you can, in fact, structure all your relationships around specific consent to be in them.

     Also, y'know, just dig in a wee bit to see who's really benefitting from mandating coerced relationships - it's basically a way to continue assimilation of power in a regressive, patriarchal system that does not regard women or children as being "people" and denies them basic agency and ability to consent, so. Y'know.

     Maybe don't feed that system.

     Now, if it was truly unintentional - accidents do happen! - then a discussion and an apology, well, that's why those things were invented.

     But if they're refusing to acknowledge that it was a transgression "because we're family" - honey, that is the reddest of flags.

     So yes. Absolutely normalize enforcing boundaries, "even with" people who you happen to be related to.

     Absolutely normalize "estranging" people who refuse to treat with you as an equal.

     Absolutely normalize ending relationships that cause you harm.

     If someone's not respecting your boundaries, it doesn't matter if they're genetically related or not.
