reminded we live in an ass clown of a society. unfortunately it is too late to use BSD because wayland is hot trash and has hard linux deps :gutkato_brulas_senzorge:
@mischievoustomato@icedquinn both freebsd and openbsd have relatively wide hardware support depending on what your config is and who you choose your parts from, the upcoming openbsd release in particular would support everything in my desktop (arc included) so if I wanted to I could switch without issue
@allison@icedquinn@mischievoustomato really only bleeding edge hardware ive had issues with on bsd. historically they move slow but the focus of the bsd family has always been stability/security first. the bsd servers i work with are boring (as it should be) and are tanks.
@threat@icedquinn@mischievoustomato Whenever someone means "hardware support" in this context, it's always GPUs and wireless networking. That's why OpenBSD wins and nothing else comes close. NetBSD and Dragonfly will catch up.... eventually (those you really do need to part your systems out deliberately, especially Dragonfly).
@allison@icedquinn@mischievoustomato i haven't used wireless or a gpu since vietnam era so that's why im lost on it. my systems are openbsd but alas no wifi or gpu
