     @lain @kaia these were because the united states prison complex was ramping into overdrive at the time incarcerating people for drug crimes for the first time and the transparent cases were mandated for electronic equipment owned by prisoners in the united states

     @lain @kaia heard somewhere that u.s. prisons used covers moulded from transparent plastic for various electronics, crts, vcrs, so that stuff couldn't be smuggled in them

     @kaia Clear plastic is actually cheaper to make, as to make many kinds of plastic opaque or coloured, you need to add a colourant - although for some reason clear plastic for casings is rare.
