I watched the professionals do it and went in armed with a bee suit, a shop vac, and a long stick. Vac is running now... still absolutely terrified.

@derek did you know that hornets are actually pretty peaceful creatures? They're aggressive when under threat. But they take care of aphids and mosquitos and such. I recently learned this (and more) when I learned that getting rid of the terrifying and massive hornets nest near my window would result in a 50k euro fine.
@epilepticrabbit I appreciate that. The organic specialists I spoke to certainly made the case that it would be OK to leave a few of the nests that we found. I want to be a good land steward and the act of removing these insects is... morally complex, for me.
