     @feld @sun Well at least with HSMs there's much less attack surface to begin with, although for the server kind I'm not entirely sure how they work.

     @sun mmm well you could put something like one of these per rack -- little server with a board full of smartcard HSMs (have no idea about the quality of this design tbh)
     
     thinking now to remember the name of a company someone I know of works at that I *think* does this kind of work too
