     The cool-retro-term doesn't seem like that great of a terminal emulator as it relies on the whole Qt and openGL - so to get it working you need 3D acceleration.
     
     I would suggest acquiring a physical terminal and connecting to it over RS-232 tbh.

     You could just use any old terminal with picom and throw a crt shader on it.
