   The main character uses something called a Me-Em (pronounced meme) to combat something called "whispers" which according to the characters are "disinformation" that misleads people, but it strongly looks like they are brainwashing people (because they are literally ripping out ideas out of peoples heads from anyone who disagrees with them).
