   I’ve had the privilege of not just liking but loving school twice: one in elementary, once in college.

   I’ve also had school be soul-grinding (high school) and traumatic (junior high). And I would •love• to talk about what made the difference — things that are often obvious and sometimes even reproducible — but K12 ed leadership seems to actively select for people who are aggressively uninterested in hearing about it.

     I’m glad you survived that, and sorry you had to.

     Two of those things I was talking about that make the difference are (1) one size never fits all; meet students where they’re at, as the person they are, and (2) care for and between all students and teachers is foundational, not a side thought or a layer on top.

     @inthehands @MxVerda @AzulCrescent For me, there was nothing worse than being forced to spend many hours each day with random people my age. For them, I was a strange and creepy freak, but for me, they were the strange and creepy ones. When your brain is wired in a different way, when you don't talk and act like the others, when you're interested in entirely different things, you become the default target.
