@pantherastare@kirby It's just been inconsistent over the time. Here's TinyIB, for example, using MM/DD/YY despite being pretty much the same in terms of look and feel: https://archive.fo/hCigN (archive since /rail/ is down at the moment). Wakaba, Kusaba X, Tinyboard and others all had different formats as well, I think.
@mint@kirby nip notation goes year/month/day, reasoning being that you can specify further in hours, minutes, etc as needed so an educated guess would be, it was a default in... whatever software that was, futaba? or was purposefully set so because anime website
