The reality that I don't think people want to stare straight in the face is that our human world is rife with interlocking systems of social/political hierarchies and that fractal network of power and abuse fosters conditions which encourages all groups of people to punch downward in order to gain power.
That includes marginalized groups of people, too.
One of the routes into power and mitigating exposure to oppression is to embrace the system's hierarchy and promulgate abuse downward.

In other words, if you're a marginalized person, one of the ways that you can alleviate the impact of oppression is to find other groups lower or equal in social status and embrace opportunities available in the system of hierarchy to reinforce oppression and abuse against others. That is, you "buy into the system" and manipulate exploitation and abuse in your favor.
On an individual level, Clarence Thomas is a good example.

On a collective level, setting up an apartheid ethnostate made possible by supportive interventions of existing imperial powers in an effort to protect a marginalized group would be another example.
You become a proxy outpost for larger imperialism's violence against others.
Regardless of the variation in question, the bargain in the "deal" is that you become a willing and active accomplice in promulgating oppression as a part of a larger system.

The hierarchy maintains itself by pitting disadvantaged/lower power groups of people against each other and seeking out willing members who will embrace the mantle of being conduits of abuse for the system.
Oppression is fractal. Hierarchy is fractal. Social structures build themselves from those same parts myriad forms.
