   One of the worst things about American politics is the extent to which, especially at the local level, it's dominated by older, white, wealthy homeowners who can afford to subject people to their poorly thought out ideas at school board meetings or other public hearing because it doesn't cost them anything. And all they care about is making sure their property values stay high, their property taxes stay low, and enforcing their weird nostalgia for a past that never happened.

     People talk about democracy like it's something we all have or had equal access to and was not subjected to a death of a thousand cuts by people who preferred the poor and marginalized not have a say in things at all.

     My voter registration is still suspended, by the way, even though the state has my correct address and I've verified it with them through the mail.

     I bet the Texas government processes those changes a lot faster for some zip codes vs. others.

     @timberwraith If you live in a blue city, if you rent, if you have to move, if you're Black or Hispanic (or just presumed to be) then the state pretty much cancels your voter registration on a whim or never acknowledges you did it in the first place.
