@arcana it's mediated between you and the customer typically, not by the restaurant. Some restaurants pool and then proportionally split tips but this should be by employee choice not company policy (it's usually an unwritten policy though) -

@sun@shitposter.world @arcana@fedi.layer02.net that's illegal in most places. for good reason. DO NOT give places that do that your business -- the employees won't see a dime of what is rightfully theirs.

@purple @arcana I went through this, I worked at a place that did it and they didn't correctly allocate amounts for when an employee left early -

@sun A co-worker / friend met me for lunch in NYC. He gave a very small tip with his credit card, then shook hands with the server and passed the real tip that way.
Avoids employers stealing tips AND unfair mandatory splitting schemes.Pissed Hippo likes this.
