@YoWatShiinaEsq same. I didn't like kaki when I wasa child growing up in Japan - there were plenty around me and we ate almost every day so I got tired of it. Now that I'm in Canada, kaki is somewhat a delicacy and I love them now.

Shiina (yowatshiinaesq@mstdn.social)'s status on Wednesday, 09-Nov-2022 01:27:28 JST Shiina Breakfasting on persimmon and yogurt. Persimmon is called "kaki" in Japanese. Kaki (persimmon), to me, is a flavor of Japan in autumn. I started to like it more after I came to the US.
I have a complex relationship with Japan--I don't like certain aspects of Japanese society, esp. how women are oppressed and how JP society disfavors individual uniqueness. The US is my chosen country and New York is my chosen home.
That said, tangible part of JP culture (esp. food culture) I do embrace.
