dictatordave (dictatordave@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:23 JST dictatordave @Mister_Sunshine @GluedToTheScreen yea we'd had the same talk about MT, mine also doesn't really like real winter which is why northern vermont or nh probably wouldn't work for her, same goes for north idaho i dont think she'd like the climate year round.
we talked about the sedona area, loved that and out toward grand canyon seems awesome for like homesteading
northeast utah up toward idaho and co borders looks nice, like enough trees so its not a crazy beaten on desert -

Mister_Sunshine (mister_sunshine@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:24 JST Mister_Sunshine @dictatordave @GluedToTheScreen Wherever you see bright red and yellow steaks in the mountains there you are likely to find toxic waste heaps and ponds. Near Leadville there is a town (might just be a spot on the map now) called Climax that has some of the prettiest crazy color toxic pools you will see anywhere, unless they have cleaned that up. Even Telluride has a nice big toxic tailings heap on the east end of town. -

>not be bothered by the state if i want to home school my kids and be left the fuck alone, should i bother with co or move on to northern nevada, or utah or idaho or wyoming
My choice was to move on. Politics in CO are out of control. The Mrs. wants to head to MT, but she has only been there in the summer. I keep telling her about this "Winter" thing that is a bit intense there. We are probably going to stay in AZ when we call it quits with the working stuff- up on the rim somewhere. Some of the counties up there are pretty lax on building permits and such. Just avoid Pima, Maricopa, and Yavapai county and you are probably ok here. -

Mister_Sunshine (mister_sunshine@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:25 JST Mister_Sunshine @GluedToTheScreen @dictatordave Been there, done that. Amazing that is still around, it's always been considered a hokey tourist trap, but I guess that's it's charm. It really is a great place to take a date. -

dictatordave (dictatordave@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:25 JST dictatordave @Mister_Sunshine @GluedToTheScreen so where are the contaminated 'chemical valley' areas of co that i want to stay away from?
i know some places like durango have insane homeless populations and i'd like to stay away from them
i guess i have to deal with a bunch of illegals probably there now too
so whats the chances that i can buy some raw land, and put up a small homestead *cough compound with a bunker cough* and not be bothered by the state if i want to home school my kids and be left the fuck alone, should i bother with co or move on to northern nevada, or utah or idaho or wyoming -

dictatordave (dictatordave@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:26 JST dictatordave @GluedToTheScreen i was thinking some place south of brekanridge but not as far as like great sand dune
or maybe just west of pueblo into the mountains some
or maybe out toward rifle
my biggest thing about these lefty states that have gone absolutely wild is what they may try to impose on my children and then i'll have to break out the magazines they def say i can't have there lol -

Mister_Sunshine (mister_sunshine@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Aug-2024 21:06:26 JST Mister_Sunshine @dictatordave @GluedToTheScreen You're talking about Southpark then. Anything North of Salida anyways. South of that is Arkansas Valley. Once upon a time I had some property NE of Alamosa on the way to GSDNP. Desolate, to say the least. Probably should hung on to that, it was on the corner of two roads. Likely that there is some sort of store or campground there now, which is what I was thinking of, but decided to sell it after I had moved on. -

... but don't tell anybody else. We have our hands full trying to deal with the Californians.
Hinterlands is best flavor and value, generally speaking.
I'd not live in the metro area if I didn't have kids/grandkids that I get along with pretty well. Were I a GRUMPY person (like SOME people), I'd be surrounded by large trees and some water and have to drive a bit to get groceries, preferably without having to pass anybody on the road on the way.

... there have been many hypotheses about it being the petrified base of a very large TREE.
I've always considered the tree idea possible, maybe ALL things were bigger in ancient times.
