I wonder about the folks that are still praising Biden, what will you say when the ICJ changes its ruling from plausible genocide to genocide. At what point, if ever, do people acknowledge that Biden knowingly, willingly supported and aided genocide? Do Palestinians not count as people? Or maybe you think it's not genocide in which case it's "just" countless war crimes which you're okay with? Or is it that he gets a pass because he's old and retiring?
@dennyhenke Not in any way letting Biden off the hook, but given what’s “being reported” (and probably true given the characters involved) how does one reconcile any of this. I have to admit, I’m finding it very uncomfortable between this rock and hard place.
@dennyhenke I hear that. Again, not disagreeing. Still just trying to sort through my own thoughts on this. Biden (like all the presidents who have preceded him since the founding of Israel) have been somewhat hamstrung by agreements, thus the rock and hard place. In my own questioning, I don’t know how one deals with that man-made mousetrap without causing more or less the same situation.
If there’s been any (if so it’s minimal) restraint on Israel’s part I’m thinking its due /1
@WarnerCrocker I can easily imagine that reporting being true But my problem with Biden and Gaza is better defined by the context of the last 8 to 10 months. So much more should have been done to by Biden and the administration to truly, forcefully pressure Israel to stop its actions.
It should have been done immediately after the ICJ ruling in late January. That was a significant ruling and he resisted it rather than acknowledge and accept it. He continued to go along.
@dennyhenke to the agreement. If we pulled out of it or didn’t provide any assistance there’s no seat at the table to even push for restraint.
When I toss this around in my head, I often land in a place that the current result would be more or less the same, with the US having hands off, but I doubt that hands off posture would yield anything other than a seat in the balcony watching the misery unfold.
