   @failedLyndonLaRouchite #Chicago has become a signifier of what all those people feel is "wrong" with America. A convenient symbol. And often a racialized one. You say Chicago and people think everyone is living in constant violence everywhere. This is a drumbeat in media (especial right wing media). Most people who hold these stereotypes are coming at it from the Right, not the Left. People I know from home think I live in a Mad Max-hellscape under constant gunfire. That is not the case.

     One of the better parts about having the #DNC in #Chicago is seeing the love this city is getting from visitors. Chicago often has a bad reputation in American media but people coming here get to see for themselves how warm, welcoming, and enjoyable this place is!

     t is not saying that are not problems here or in the past. We can't forget and we need to work on improving things moving forward. But the larger image of #Chicago equaling all that is wrong with Godless America are just not true. Those people who feel this way are not concerned about the CPD's history of violence. They probably would say that the CPD is too soft on crime. The narrative is similar to how people use San Francisco or Portland as a signifier of Urban Decay.
