kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 02:58:56 JST kaia you know I help in psych ward, offering relaxation groups, attending people without relatives.
I had such an uncomfy situation with a doctor in the psych ward today that I think I'll write a complaint. they treated a patient with such disdain and almost disgust. they also withheld sleep medication that the patient requested. maybe that was medically correct, but the disgust was just unethical and unhippocratic.
I confronted the doctor about it as unobtrusively as I could and they basically said that I should shut up because I'm not a doctor.- snacks and meso like this.

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 03:07:49 JST Bricky @kaia I would complain as well. Medical personnel are supposed to be active listeners and treat people with humility as it's hard enough for them to even be open and vulnerable. Doctors are seen as authoritative figures and so shouldn't abuse said trust by treating patients like the dirt on their shoes. kaia likes this. -

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 03:10:04 JST Bricky @mangeurdenuage When I was training to be a dietitian, I understood the importance of reflection. It was one good thing I took out of my uni education especially since they made the effort to include practical examples of how to do it effectively.

sim@shitposter.world's status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 03:24:38 JST sim @kaia I think you did the right thing to take them to the side to discuss it. If they just told you to shut up because you aren't a doctor then this is bad form. I think it would be worth raising with management, because one bad doctor can ruin the experience for everyone else and how things get bad to begin with. If they require authority to listen then so be it.
It is also worth doing for the sake of the patients there, that you are the least impacted so it makes speaking out easier. Just be clear about the outcome that you'd want to see before making the complaint. And you probably know better how to handle conflicts should they arise with teaming up. Let me know how things go.kaia likes this. -

Styx (__styx__@piaille.fr)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 04:25:00 JST Styx @kaia yeah, a complaint seems appropriate
It's sometimes more listened when it's not directly the patients or nurses that file themEvery one can be shitty sometimes, but docs need to be shitty the least amount of time since it can literally broke people down and make them fear to even try the medical system

Nicro (nicro@fedi.absturztau.be)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 04:34:37 JST Nicro @kaia sorry to hear that. Some doctors really haven't lost their "Mightier than thou"-attitude yet. My mom is a midwife and had to deal with some of them. Fortunately in that case, midwifes are actually higher in command than doctors when working in their field and would humble them with annoying work until they gain respect. This one is clearly still missing that experience.
Diplomacy has failed, escalation follows. Let their superior give them the needed vibe-check.kaia likes this. -

Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Aug-2024 06:58:32 JST Hyolobrika @kaia Psych wards and the mental health system shouldn't be the way they are. If you commit a crime, you should be able to choose whether you go somewhere with padded walls where you are forced to take drugs against your will, or whether you go somewhere with hard walls. kaia likes this.
