Heard you can get the monkeypox vaccine in the US now https://mastodon.social/@violetblue/112985489954578493 so I look up what the status is in Canada & find this page on the City of Toronto website https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/health-wellness-care/health-programs-advice/mpox/ there were indeed new eligibility guidelines so I take a look and

    wwhhhhh

This is word spaghetti. I'm sincerely unsure if I qualify

Currently trying to figure out the least illegal possible way of performing an act of sex work, so I can just point to the second option, the one that isn't a runon sentence

FWIW I strongly recommend getting the mpox vaccine if you can (it's at some CVS in the US). The mpox vaccine also helps prevent smallpox. It's two shots 28 days apart and for me the side effects were minimal. I got a shot in afternoon, felt out of sorts in evening, then fine next day. The second shot was even less noticeable. My doc in SF had seen a few cases and was like GET IT even if you're not the target group for mpox. He described it as *extremely* painful and disfiguring.

Toronto Public Health has added additional mpox vaccine appointments for eligible residents. Please note the mpox vaccine is available to those who meet eligibility criteria, as defined by the Ontario Ministry of Health. It is not available to travelers unless they meet the eligibility criteria.   Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is an infectious disease […]

@mcc you just self-identified as planning to engage in sex-work for the purpose of getting the vaccine. The way I read it, that's enough to qualify

Why would you say "transgender or cisgender people". Isn't that just "people" at that point. How do you write that long list of adjectives at the start and not realize you've just exhaustively listed every possible category

If you cisgend, or are planning to cisgend, you may qualify as a cisgender (and therefore be eligible to receive the vaccine)

@ebooksyearn I've known people who identify as neither transgender nor cisgender but they listed the other categories too so there's no escape

@mcc there are two kinds of people in the world. People in column A and people in column B. Or something.

Yanno, I'm EXTREMELY glad that sex workers and their partners are being provided first crack at the vaccine, but I'm deeply, thoroughly annoyed at the continued narrative that MLM relationships, sex work, and the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole are chiefly responsible for the spread of monkeypox.

That's the kind of shit that lets bigots murder people, especially since it's not actually an STI per se, just easier to spread with extended close physical contact.

@theogrin I think the original reasoning was that there was a limited amount of vaccine and they wanted to apply it where it would do the most amount of immediate good*. But now they have loosened things up (due to, I assume, more vaccine) and this framing is still in place, but having been expanded the framing seems less meaningful.

      * This, of course, raising the question of "what if you've made a miscalculation about the method of spread"
