Dayalicia Tohka Mitsuki (daya@princess.wedding)'s status on Monday, 19-Aug-2024 12:30:07 JST Dayalicia Tohka Mitsuki So i was using a 500G USB for 4 years as storage for my rapseberry pi, but I finally moved everything to ssd. I buy an usb adaptar an an nvm kingston 1TB ssd, but the kingston ssd died, probably due to a defective usb controller, so I had to buy an external adata usb 1TB ssd.
it was extremely fast while the other one (usb adapter + kingston ssd extremely slow)
But also my usb started showing errors, so I restored my whole USB contents from a backup i have in hard disk, my backup that is updated with rsync is more reliable since probably files in USB got corrupted.-

eliotreyna (eliotreyna@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Monday, 19-Aug-2024 12:43:37 JST eliotreyna @daya Unless that we're talking about the Fury series, the Kingston SSD NVME drives are not reliable enough to use it with cheap USB adapters. Maybe an A400 SSD can deal with it, but the rest of the cheap NVME SSD drives often haves a seriously questionable data bank quality and a really unreliable firmware.

eliotreyna (eliotreyna@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Monday, 19-Aug-2024 12:46:05 JST eliotreyna @daya Yes. It often have a better voltage surge protections and better firmware that can deal with them. I tested it comparing a cheap generic USB drive with a PNY-made HP flashdrive.

eliotreyna (eliotreyna@social.vivaldi.net)'s status on Monday, 19-Aug-2024 12:51:09 JST eliotreyna @daya Nice pick-up, but in the case of that model, I rather to use GNOME Firmware in order to update the firmware prior to put some important files on it.
