   It's very difficult to find prosocial outcomes for communities when griefers are trying to exploit all possible weaknesses. I think it would be a much easier conversation if hedge-fund driven media companies and platforms didn't exist, and I think it may be an impossible problem otherwise. Some things simply cannot be built within an adversarial frame.

     Somewhere between the "mine mine all mine, fuck off to jail" position on the rights of creators to absolute control over every aspect of their work, and the hoisted black flag position of maximum yarrage, there must exist a middle ground, some compromise that acknowledges to authors some moral/economic rights while avoiding wastage, abandonment, and cultural constipation.

     Unfortunately we can't even TALK about finding that middle ground if partisans for the extreme positions won't stop yelling.
