     @itty53 I think another consideration is probably valve maintaining a certain brand image.

     OK, if Valve offers an official version, it ensures that Steam on handheld gaming devices and that “Steam Deck experience” is being shown in the best light possible.

     Simple good business. "Yes I'll allow you to install our store onto as many devices as I possibly can". Not their problem if the handheld ends up like shit.
