   Remembering the time when Francis Ford Coppola randomly has the Communist Party of Italy welcome Michael Corleone to Italy in THE GODFATHER III.

   Does Anyone know why Coppola frames this scene like this? Why randomly add the PCI to this scene? What does it achieve? What is it supposed to say?

     @mook that's a good theory. I thought it was because the PCI was Stalinist and that they therefore support big business.

     @abolisyonista@ni.hil.ist i'm guessing it's saying that the Corleone family has invested money in corrupting internal Italian politics. They have their fingers in every pie, as they say.
     
     In Godfather II Michael actually sympathizes with the Cuban Revolution ( he sees a revolutionary martyr himself and later comments 'they can win' in a party with Cuban mafiosi) and his coup against Hyman Roth is also a move against the anti-castro gangsters.
     
     So maybe Michael also low key sympathizes with the communists? but it's probably just 'well the commies are actually all controlled by the Mafia" dumb American take.
     
     I never finished III because i can't get past that scene where there's a helicopter attack on The Commission... Coppola really jumps the shark there.
