    “If Democrats truly want to make this election about democracy, they might start by looking at the recent trends in their own house.”

    Since #KamalaHarris wasn’t on the primary ticket for voters, delegates choosing her as the nominee is undemocratic, and follows on a long history of party leaders not trusting their voters, writes a political scientist:

      This is absolutely astonishing. It's one of the stupidest things I've ever read on the subject of American politics, or any country's politics. I'm honestly stunned. Even in an age when journalistic incompetence is unfortunately widespread, this is a breathtaking piece of idiocy.

      My naive take is that owners of media outlets might very well actually want trump again. He just provides content for them to write shit, and for those of them who are rich, can also have the privilege of tax cuts. At the very least, they want the election to be close (rather than outright support trump) because the danger that trump poses alone will keep people needing updates.

      Either way, i am sick of this shit.

      I'm truly blown away. I mean, with this, The Conversation has clearly and permanently forfeited any role it might have had in any sort of adult political discussion. But that really only scratches the surface. What is even going on over there?

      @NeonPurpleStar @barney

      First, @TheConversationUS isn’t a “media outlet.” It’s a forum for public scholarship, which is not slanted politically.

      This essay, however, should have been peer-reviewed.

      Second, Daniel Klinghard is at the College of the Holy Cross. A small (3k), private, Jesuit, four-year liberal arts college in Worcester, MA. Old.

      His PhD: Brandeis University (also in MA, also private).

      Lived experience: “outside the mainstream.”

      @kegill @barney @TheConversationUS my response was a gut feeling take, and no matter the education level of the author, i thought that was a terrible title

      @NeonPurpleStar

      I read the whole thing. It's the abysmal product of an academic who wrote a book on a small area of US history, and now has a desperate, narcissistic need to make himself feel relevant by recycling what he learned in his research.

      @NeonPurpleStar

      I was not defending the author. See my comment about the need for peer review. It would have flunked, I think.

      I looked up his background to get an idea of his experience and worldview. Coddled.
