The #stray we took in is completely fine w being a house cat- he never breaks for the door & is now my shadow. We named him Marty (after Marty McFly- he's likeable and sweet but stumbles into trouble guilelessly).
The only problem is he & my very spoiled (and until now solitary) female cat don't get along. They keep hissing & growling low at one another.
This is all new to me: any advice on how to get them to accept each other? Do I let them work it out or keep them separated?

All I'm gonna say is I hope you got him checked out, because strays can bring outside problems inside. Other than that, you have to let them sort it out. If you show the female that you trust the male, she may come around eventually.

@jacklaridian I got him neutered, vaccinated, checked out by a vet, and tested for feline leukemia and HIV (negative for both.) He doesn't have fleas or parasites. She says he's totally healthy- he had an ear infection so she gave him a shot & some drops I can give him.
Ok, thanks for the info- that's helpful. I've never had a male cat and my cat's never been around another; I've been googling but it's giving me conflicting info.

Cats are actually pretty adaptable, but you can't really force stuff on them. You just have to show that nothing changes as far as your relationship with her and he's just an addition to the family. Congrats!! 🐱

@jacklaridian Thanks 😁 He's adorable so I really want it to work out. I'll be patient and try all of the advice everyone's been giving. Mostly I was just worried about how antagonistic they were towards each other because I am not sure what's "normal" and what's a cause for alarm.
