What Wajahat Ali says here needs to be shouted from the rooftops:
"The modern American press is utterly broken. … It has atrophied into a shameful, laughable, and even dangerous coterie of incestuous sycophantic stenographers beholden to access and ratings over truth and facts."
Ultimately, this is a moral failing which shows many journalists now as morally unserious, ethically underdeveloped human beings.
