OK, everybody. What's going to be the new secure messaging service once Signal finally jumps the shark? Right now, the Fonz is putting on his shorts and life preserver. Session seems nice, though my mom, and most others, will be put off by the whole QR code/saving of the keys thing.

JC Brand (jcbrand@mastodon.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 08-Nov-2022 18:19:52 JST JC Brand If you can get other people to use it, #XMPP with OMEMO end-to-end-encryption is pretty secure.
Conversations is an excellent Android client. There are iPhone clients, but they're not as good sadly.
Bonus points if you run your own server (which is probably much easier than running dobbs.town).

arcanicanis (arcanicanis@were.social)'s status on Tuesday, 08-Nov-2022 19:10:50 JST arcanicanis Within my XMPP-based community, I've had most users profess a strong preference for the 'monocles chat' client over Conversations for having better stability and a little more featureful, with everyone having tried Conversations first:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.monocles.chat/
Either way, regardless of user preference, it all still interoperates per the nature of a proper federated instant messaging protocol.
It would be nice if someone filled the gap for a reasonable-quality iOS client some day, of something that fits within the iOS HIG design standards.
