     @EighthLayer the fork called Glitch-Soc allows this. It's one of the main features and is maintained by some of the same devs.

     You just have to find an instance that's good for you that uses Glitch.

     That being said, Mastodon devs are well aware of glitch and I'm sure know about that feature and purposefully have omitted it for whatever reason.

     Of course they can change their mind in the future.🤷♂️

     @EighthLayer personally, I'm very cynical when it comes to their motives.

     Mastodon currently has 72% of the users on Fedi by software use.

     If they can control how every instance works, it's the same as no decentralization at all.

     And I say this from a Mastodon instance.

     However, I'm only still on this software because they have made a half assed migration feature that is broken as hell. Last time I tried migrating I lost 200 followers.

     Now that I have 1k+, I'm hesitant to go through that again.😔

     @BeAware Yeah seems like a strange decision to omit it from vanilla Mastodon.

     @BeAware I wonder if they don’t add the local only feature because that then promotes instances to only talk amongst themselves. I know it’s possible in other ways, but that would be front and centre.

     I know what you mean with the migration “feature”. It’s not exactly a simple process and yeah, you do end up losing followers. I recently migrated and lost about 8-10%. 🙃
