Is there a way to hide an individual post on Mastodon? Like if someone you follow happens to toot something that is generally innocuous but triggering to you personally (example: an abuse victim whose abuser used to wear orange sweaters a lot, and someone posts a really big high-res picture of a dude wearing an orange sweater). The fact that the sweater is orange might not even be salient enough to show up in the alt text, but you still don't want to see that every time you log in.

@itamarst Yeah I saw that, and I thought that's what it did, but it seems like it just lets you create a new filter *based* on that post?

@glyph @itamarst I have a "viral nonsense" filter, and I add posts to that using this method.

@glyph There's a "Filter this post" on the toot-specific "..." menu in my server, at least.

@glyph @itamarst mastodon devs like darkmode so a github bug with screenshots would likely be taken seriously

@itamarst @mcc Oh, I see. It looks sort of like the UI in my mail client that lets me create a new "filter", but it's adding it *to* a "filter", and one of the criteria *for* a "filter" is "this one exact post". Got it.

@glyph @itamarst This. It is a weirdly shaped feature, but it happens to match exactly the behavior I want.

@mcc @itamarst yeah I think that this is, semantically, exactly what I was asking for… but the presentation is incredibly awkward. Also, the UI has that class of bug where it only half-respects dark mode so it's white-on-white for me, which does not make it easier to navigate.

@itamarst (cc @mcc to join threads here) okay perhaps I have misunderstood what the interstitial after "filter this post" does
