Tech adoption patterns haven't changed much since the cotton gin era. We quickly embrace profitable tech despite negative impacts (e.g., generative AI today, cotton gin then), while resisting beneficial changes (improved ventilation now, crop rotation then). Both show prioritizing short-term gains over long-term effects, but we can't know long term effects for certain. Humans have a long history of not learning from history. $.02
