Pet peeve: I've never once seen any mass media mention how right-wing media always calls him "President Trump" when in fact he is not president.
Normalizing the small shit is a big reason why we're in the big shit.

@philip @OliverNoble It's only right-wing media that uses "President Trump" as if he still was president—implying they're complicit in the Big Lie and January 6.
In proper media sources, it's always "Former president", e.g. here's a current CNN article
@OliverNoble @thomasfuchs My understanding (not saying that makes it “correct”) is that it’s a cultural norm that president is a title you carry for life. Once you’ve been president, you forever hold that title.
@thomasfuchs
I think its just and American thing, I have today seen references to "president Carter"
Its a bit grovelly and wierd though
@thomasfuchs I think it's standard convention. The same is true for all former presidents.
@WoweeZowee No, it's not. In proper media, former presidents are "former presidents". For example, here's a current CNN article: https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/03/politics/jimmy-carter-says-he-hopes-to-vote-for-kamala-harris/index.html
@Odaeus The West Wing is a fictional TV show. In normal real-life media, former presidents are former presidents, not presidents. See e.g. https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/03/politics/jimmy-carter-says-he-hopes-to-vote-for-kamala-harris/index.html
@thomasfuchs most of my US political knowledge comes from watching The West Wing and I'm sure I remember that ex-presidents retained the title. 🤔
