   That said, I think I better create a backup Mastodon account. The problem with Mastodon is that it is very left leaning, and my instance is very much so. UnfortubatrlyI don't comfortably fit into the category. I am progressive but not Western progressive.

     @liztai @jfslicer es Same here. Liberal didn't used to mean left at all in Europe, although now it's used to mean that sometimes. It's imported from the US.

     To me left is tied to people power, socialism, democracy - something like the origin of the phrase from France. Much of the current progressive politics isn't 'left' by these standards.

     @liztai I came to terms 15 years ago that left and right mean different things to each person. I can think of at least five ways to define each word depending on who I've been talking to... and it's just wild. So I try to not use those words... same with conservative and liberal.
