   Six years ago today, the Danish parliament introduced the first law ever to regulate what clothes citizens are allowed to wear.

   The law came as a culmination of decades of political persecution of religious minorities, and the most extreme parties celebrated, that Muslims could now no longer wear religious clothing which covers the face.

   As a consequence, a large number of citizens have been fined for wearing everything from scarfs to balaclavas to Halloween costumes.

   This is not the way.

     @stveje @randahl Yes, this.

     I do not care much for the right of wearing or making people around not wear hijabs or whatever but I strongly dislike the idea ordering people around what they should wear and if they can't choose to cover their face or body for whatever reason.

     What comes next, not wearing baggy clothes (can hide weapons! interfere with gait recognition cameras!) and sunshades in public places? I never felt the need to wear face covering but the idea of dictating when it can and can't be done is very very unhealthy.

     @randahl And aside from the blatant racism, it was also clearly about allowing mass surveillance through facial recognition. Fear really made us accept the most shameful changes to our society.
