     @prettygood Considering I refuse to touch Gentoo and Arch, my "hipster-ish but still passable for normal usage" ideas boil down to either NixOS or turning that rig into a Hackintosh, and Hackintoshing would require way too much parts surgery for my taste

     @prettygood As for "why not Guix", I could but I would need to do nonfree kernel and it would be fairly involved to get everything the way I want it. I am tempted sometimes tho.

     @prettygood No no, you want to know something else? It's because "you'll learn a lot about Linux", why would I ever want to know anything more about Linux? Something tells me that if I knew what any of the BSDs were back then or had an Intel Mac in the late 2000s my life would have charted a very different path and I would have ended up infinitely more well adjusted. But no, Linux is my Windows and I just have to suck it up and deal with it.

     @prettygood nah I think it's just like: Apple introduces architecture -> first few years are good -> the gears start slipping -> they have to introduce a new architecture to cover for the bad PR and lost sales -> rinse, repeat

     @allison meanwhile me on the other hand had an Intel mac in the late 2000s and it is a big reason why I switched to Linux. Intel Macs are going to be The Dark Ages in between PPC and Apple silicon when we get around to having hindsight.
