   I remember listening to a talk on seismic monitoring stations in Wellington, just a few weeks after a smaller earth quake. It's interesting, but it's not really preventative. By the time you register something it's kinda too late. A lot of the preventative work has already been done, like the isolaters under the Bee Hive, Parliament, Te Papa and many other buildings.

     None of NZ's natural hazard monitoring roles should be cut. Not one. We need MORE of them I'd imagine, not less. This is almost certainly simply some more utter stupidity to pay for the tax-cuts for the wealthy :(
