well he was right, there was no *need* for a home computer. I was still writing and mailing checks into the 2010s, I could pick up a phone and call people if I needed to talk to them, and so on

integrating computers into every aspect of life was an extremely bad idea. especially bad was the bit about carrying one around with you and, increasingly, making it a requirement to interact with the physical world

@deprecated_ii The only computer you should carry around with you is a cryptography key

@DemonSixOne @skylar I'm not really talking about using computers for productive ends, I mean things like blowing up family formation with tinder and the NSA tracking how many droplets of urine you piss each morning through your phone mic

I like computers and computing in general. but the overall impact they've had on society is indisputably horrible, and we're going to plumb new depths of horror in the coming decades

@deprecated_ii @skylar @DemonSixOne don't forget pornography, brainrot content, iPad parenting replacing TV parenting and being even worse, and kids thinking they should slice their dick off because an influencer said so.

@deprecated_ii @skylar Pretty sure silents and boomers fucked things over with civil rights act draining competency out of everything followed by 50+ years of shipping as much industrial capacity out as they could. If anything, computing is a compensation response to the loss of production and competent workers.

@skylar if you told them "hey this computer shit is going to reduce your odds of having grandchildren by 90%" they would probably be interested in hearing more

@deprecated_ii sure folks could have done things the manual way, but after getting a taste of what the computer machine could do at work, why would they want to? why use pencil and paper when the enslaved demons trapped in silicon could make some household chores like bookkeeping easier?
