Is 40GB enough space for a small Mastodon instance? Can I reduce the amount of downloaded and cached media? #Mastodon

It's what I've been doing since I started this instance and never paid more then $2-$3 a month with the maintenance script I run.

1. The bill breakdown for June is attached below.
2. If you're talking about Mastodon specifically, then yes. Mastodon stores ALL images on the disk or cloud if it's setup. Other Fedi software has options to turn of caching of media so that media is only grabbed when requested.
3. Yep. I use this script with some personal modifications to prune my storage https://ricard.dev/improving-mastodons-disk-usage/

1. I would love to see that bill breakdown because you have me very curious
2. Is the server's overall storage also limited to the stuff that the owner follows, if it's single-user?
3. Is pruning old content a way to get around these space limits?

BeAware :fediverse: (beaware@social.beaware.live)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Jul-2024 04:03:58 JST BeAware :fediverse: @nus @AterNox @scobiform this is JUST media storage. 7gb would not handle a mastodon instance.
I run mine on DigitalOcean. Started it using their One Click droplets.

Does this include web hosting or do I still need to find a service for that? I've been messing around with Vultr, but I've barely started to understand how this other kind of storage works or how to properly use it
