"We can't allow users to make use of non-free software, because they might think it's better and that would defeat the aims of free software" is *not* a flex

@mjg59 I don't know what you're even going on about.
It is not the goal of the free software movement to restrict the users - the GNU OS will run any software that the user chooses to execute, although I myself would quite like it if I could set it to not run any proprietary software by default to save you from accidentally running it - alas there doesn't currently exist a suitable license tagging method like an elf header. -

Especially in this case, where it's not even non-free software, merely software under a license that allows non-free derivatives asdfjjkadfsadf

@mjg59 All I can say is based.
I prefer the freedom of gdb to any cringe pushover licensed debugger. -

@Suiseiseki Emacs doesn't integrate with lldb because it's under a permissive license

@GAtheist123 It is very possible to survive without running proprietary software on your computer, although certain things are difficult due to proprietary sabotage (everything useful that can be done on a computer has almost always been done with free software first, although it's often the case that some business releases a proprietary implementation and ensures that you don't learn about the original).
You think rms runs proprietary software?
I'm sending this message to you without using proprietary software or JavaScript. -

@Suiseiseki @mjg59 I like the idea in principle but it seems to me practically impossible to survive without using proprietary software. Especially non-free JavaScript -

@mjg59 When it comes to the kind of software that has multiple implementations, I've found the best way to pick a winner is to check the license.
The implementations that are (totally or mostly) under pushover terms almost always suck (i.e. BIND).
But when I find one that proudly states that it is under the GPLv3-or-later (for example, KnotDNS), I know I've found the winner right away. -

@mjg59 Also, btw, I don't have LLVM or clang installed on my computer, as the license sucks and secondarily it takes way too long to compile and way too much RAM - while I love the license on GCC and it's quite pleasant to compile too. -

@GAtheist123 If it's a job, you should be running whatever malware they want ran on their computer, not yours.
Banking is a problem, most payments are possible with cash. -

@Suiseiseki I’m required to run proprietary software to do my job. My bank uses proprietary JavaScript on their website. I mean I could find a new job and do my banking in person but it all seems too hard.. -

Banking is a problem, but most payments are possible with cash and plastic notes are somewhat more reliable than a magic number on a computer that could be wiped out or taken from you anytime.
