Colorado voters passed an initiative to do this 4 years ago. All school kids K-12 get free breakfast and lunch. Paid for by a tax on household incomes over $300K/year. (About $45/year extra.) School districts buy from local vendors. Afaik, kids & families don’t pay anything. Denver was a holdout because of the number of students. Not sure if they’re doing it yet. Probably other holdouts as well.
