i'm gonna say it, pleroma instances that intentionally restrict public posts from showing for logged out users when you click on the original URL is hostile design, anyone who does this should get slapped you could at the bare minimum put a "this content is hidden" but they can't even afford that
@feld@bikeshed.party if that legal situation applies to you then add literally any warning, if i need to protect my mail from potential thieves it doesn't justify taping a bunch of knives to my mailbox
@phnt@fluffytail.org if you believe this then you should also have the courtesy of putting literally any indication that you are intentionally refusing to load this content instead of leaving it in a broken state
@shibao Sometimes there's no other way to prevent scraping or some random glowie or HR worker from snooping on someone's posts. Timelines shouldn't be accessible at all and search should also be turned off by default. The only thing that should work oobe is viewing the admin profile without posts and direct links to posts that then load the whole thread.
@bonifartius@qoto.org just because a commie might be on the other side of my front door doesn't mean i put a round through it every time someone knocks on it
@bonifartius@qoto.org damn if only there were literally any other solutions like robots.txt or blocking user agents or literally just putting an error message when you intentionally break functionality on your site
your instance is fine, i'm talking about instances like https://fedi.layer02.net for an object URL, but there's a lot of instances that do this, not just fedi.layer02.net
@shibao It's not broken, literally any link to a thread that links to my instance will load the whole thread. Also if it is the object endpoint, putting that into search will retrieve that post and every reply that came before it.
For the timelines, Pete got asked by the FBI about CP because some random site scraped FSE's public timeline. The origin of the post was from somewhere else. What I can tolerate is the public local timeline. That can be used to find a good instance that would fit someone's interest.
And the search should be completely disabled, because in my opinion it serves zero purpose other than finding dirt on someone, or searching for degenerate posts anonymously.
