As California gets ready to do more "homeless sweeps," I feel the need to remind y'all that NYC has more homeless people, and more homeless people per capita, than San Francisco.🙂🙃
But NYC is a much less cruel and much less dysfunctional city than San Francisco, so their homeless people are much more likely to have shelter.

Also speaking of cruelty, more homeless people die of hypothermia in LA than in NYC.
Homeless people often sleep on park benches. If they have to sleep on the floor, they often make a cardboard pad. But why? Not for the cushioning.
People that go camping in cold weather already know the answer. Experienced homeless folk tell new homeless folk, "Don't fall asleep directly on concrete. You might not wake up."
Think before you throw away "unsightly" cardboard.

Homelessness is pollution emitted by rich, cruel people: rich enough to jack up home prices, cruel enough to block more homes. Homeless people are victims of that pollution.

California has more visible homeless people than NY, mostly because we have a more potent combination of "rich and cruel," than they do, and our local governments are more dysfunctional.🤷🏿♂️
Even New Yorkers that pretend that they don't care, care more than they pretend.

@mekkaokereke @acm_redfox there is a public fridge filled by volunteers near my house for anyone who needs to take what they want.
Some people nearby hate it, because it attracts poor and unhoused people. The people waiting there are harmless and thankful.
One of the complaints it that people.use the bushes as a bathroom, which I agree is unpleasant.
However, there is a church (that is allowing their power to be used) that doesn't open doors to allow relief.
