     I think Mastodon should rename 'instances' to 'Communities'

     Instances feels too technical, and I see even savvy people struggling to understand it.

     I argue communities would make much more sense. It denotes much of the purpose behind 'why' this service has different instances, and many people will already be familiar with the concept.

     Hello Eugen, first of all,
     I appreciate your work!

     But now there are tens of thousands of people on #mastodon.online who are NEW users :mastodon: and don't know what's going on :blobugh:

     It would be good to make some kind of official #notification (or at least a post) to all #mastodon.online users with information when they can expect the #server to be up and running again, or at least that it's still down....

     @Gargron I think that would be very impressive under normal circumstances. But with dozens of millions of Twitter users that all have a need a home these numbers feel low to me.

     Of course Mastodon is not for every Twitter user and it really shouldn't appeal to them.

     But anyone that wants to have a sincere conversations about a topic that matters to them should be lured to join.

     Mastodon needs more critical mass quickly - otherwise many users might wonder off again.

     Milestones must be celebrated. 1000+ new instances and 1MM+ MAU is not a bad day. There will obviously be the dip after. What can the community do to keep the momentum going?

     Personally, I'd like to see more creators coming here and even hosting their own mastodon instances. It's not that different than having your own "discord" server except you also need to likely create your own monetization mechanics
