All hail the unseen unsung council staff who sit in dull meetings in dull meeting rooms and come up with clever ways to make everyone's day better. Like these railings at traffic lights where cyclists can rest their arm and foot. I hope they become more widespread.

Mrs Cloudy (cloudymrs@mastodon.scot)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jul-2024 02:58:57 JST Mrs Cloudy @CiaraNi I'm still disappointed that the Scottish system that was almost put in place was made impossible by constitutional wrangling. We now have to wait for England to tell us what system they approve for the whole UK and when that might be, it is anyone's guess.

Ciara (ciarani@mastodon.green)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jul-2024 02:58:58 JST Ciara Another nice idea that some unsung people came up with in some council backroom. If you have a bottle or can that you can't bring to a deposit machine, you don’t chuck it in the bin. You leave it on ‘Pantringen' (the deposit shelf) so someone else can take it and get the money back.
Deposit bottles discarded in public places are typically collected by the marginalised. Safer and more dignified to take it off a shelf than root around in bins. Fair play to whomever came up with the idea.
