     I did not have "build fucking CMake from source" on today's to-do list, but here we are, apparently

     This is, of course, going to throw my excessively package-laden but mostly extremely vanilla and repo-standard reference workstation ENTIRELY out of whack, but I definitely can't be bothered deploying and VM or an SBC for this one irritating thing.

     @gilesgoat I feel this with every fibre of my being. (I write a lot of documentation for third parties, and unravelling the dependency hell caused by their inability to list the package versions on their development systems is a large part of that.)

     Further: I, too, hate Gradle with the burning fire of a million suns.

     @HauntedOwlbear AT LEAST it's "just that" ... you know when you try to compile something ( on Android ) at it beings with "Ah you need another version of GRADLE!" .. but this needs ANOTHER version of THIS lib .. and this needs another version of THAT lib . but that NEEDS another version of THESE tools .. and these need another version of .. RESULT : EVERYTHING SCRWED UP NOTHING ELSE EVER WORKS !!! 😡

     @HauntedOwlbear We are in 2 then ( hating GRADLE ) .. I *SERIOUSLY* started to tell people that ask me "if I can do this on Android" that "it's going to cost you 3x times the other thing because I am going to spend most of it in medicines to TRY to cure my nerves after that !" I should quote 4x times "if that means coding for Quest/Meta" cause their "fantastic dev support" i.e. LESS THAN ZERO !
