     I think it will depend on who holds out and / or she picks for VP. If the consensus is overwhelming for Harris, most will keep their powder dry.

     I could imagine the progressive left raising cain about it but then again, they showed remarkable discipline for Biden.

     The key I think is to not let it look like donors or elites are dictating. I actually think the line that this is all driven by elites is potent and frankly, I am not sure how to address it.

     Redirecting the most ambitious Democrats to vie for the VP slot seems to be a masterful move right now. We'll see what develops this week, though.

     @evan Good point. It would give the horse-race media something to do without trying to kill Harris' campaign and it would also distract Trump because it would still be an unknown.
