What, exactly, do people mean when they say "THE Media"?

There are literally thousands of media outlets, (including Social media such as mastodon). In my opinion, the quality of journalism varies dramatically across them. But many of these outlets are diametrically opposed. Many individual outlets themselves air opposing editorials.

Does anyone think, for example, that Fox News, CNN, NPR, NY Times and The National Review are all coordinating on a master
"THE Media" plan?
