@Frank im just waiting for the first line of prosumer tools to put DRM and IOT in. It'll start with air tags integrated so that your tools can't walk off and they'll put some connected stuff in for battery charge warnings etc. Basically letting you spy on employees (e.g. last used, last location, etc. under the guise of always being charged and not losing tools and wasting time.

@BowsacNoodle @Frank they want to get it to the level of working at a phone call center, where your supervisor can sit in a fucking room and look at a bunch of graphs and charts that show how much you're using the drill and if you haven't used the drill in 60 seconds your supervisor can ping you through the tool and berate you.

@mousewaffen @Frank Perhaps but tradies are resourceful. The second someone realizes a way to fubar a "smart tool" with plausible deniability, it'll spread like wildfire and kill the brand. Besides I could only see something like that really work out on new build where a blueprint is put into a GUI for project management. End of the day nobody WANTS to pay for stupid garbage like that but they would buy company A over company B if all features made sense and something was included. I don't expect any of the companies I know to pay rent seeking costs when finding reliable labor that speaks English and doesn't get too high on the job can be its own challenge.
