You know, as I got older it became apparent that access to information is always what held me back, and probably the same for everyone. Like, when I was quite young how was I supposed to learn to program on say, Windows 95, when I didn't know where to get a compiler and I had no books that explained programming available to me? Not even knowing where to begin so I'd understand the books once I reached for them?
Technical standards really ought to be open to the public if they're meant to be widely implemented.- Linux Walt Alt (@lnxw37a2) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} likes this.

Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Friday, 19-Jul-2024 08:59:10 JST Sick Sun @feld Years ago I wanted to learn about smartcard development and the only way I could do it was by pirating paywalled tools and swiping documents that you could only get by signing an NDA, and an excruciating search for card unlock passwords that are not public knowledge. In the end I didn't write anything down and if I want to do it again I have to start that process completely over. -
