I believe we have a responsibility to consider the experiences of people of other identities. I would call that empathy, not overthought.
Aside from that, there are indeed related variables. For example, women get “cat called.” And there’s also the related vagina slang.
I’m not saying this is an issue. I’m asking the question as a man who wants to be respectful with my language.

As soon as a woman weighs in and says she's offended by being compared to a cat in this way, I think there are better ways to spend your energy.Also, the term 'cat called' comes from the male stereotype of men being like 'Tom Cats' meaning they have loose morals.
